![]() In a series of experiments, Ariely neatly shows that neither the size of the reward nor the probability of getting caught substantially affects the likelihood of dishonest behavior. ![]() In “The (Honest) Truth About Dishonesty,” Ariely applies his experimental approach to how we “lie to everyone - especially ourselves.” The book discusses the powerful ways irrationality affects our lives, and it begins with a critique of those who think dishonesty is a result of a rational cost-benefit calculation. ![]() Recognizing this, he adopts his paradoxical mission: to design better economic and social institutions to protect us from our confident pursuit of rational economic and social institutions. Our irrationality may be very predictable, but our ability to forecast this behavior doesn’t alter the conditions that give rise to it. In his previous book, “Predictably Irrational,” Ariely exposed our false assumptions about the rationality of markets and individuals with plenty of surprising and humorous examples. As director of the Center for Advanced Hindsight, he insists on a commitment to absurdity, but there is nothing cynical about his approach to human behavior. ![]() Behavioral economist Dan Ariely is a funny guy on a mission. ![]() ![]() ![]() Although the society's goals were to oppose religious influence, there were no “vows of revenge” against the Church for “crimes against scientists like Galileo and Copernicus. ![]() Of course, a lot of organisation was involved to make sure Avery was safe and well trekking around the parks in the Florida heat, but I’ll get to that a little later in this blog post. She has HIE, which leads to an array of subsequent conditions – Cerebral Palsy, Dystonia, Epilepsy and she’s 100% G tube fed. If one or some of your party has additional needs, there’s a little more planning involved.Īvery has complex medical needs. So how did Disney World shape up when it came to catering to my special needs children?Īnyone that has been to Disney World knows that it takes a bit of planning, especially if you want to ride the busiest rides, eat at your favourite restaurants and well, actually get into the parks. ![]() My son Zachary has Autism, and my daughter, Avery has Cerebral Palsy. Two of my children have additional needs. Of course, we had to spend a lot of our time in the most magical place on Earth, Disney World. My family and I recently came home from a two week trip to Orlando, Florida. ![]() ![]() Unfolding across two timeframes and two continents, the series' settings - a rural Appalachian community in the near-future of 2032 and a strangely quiet, seemingly underpopulated London of 2099 - are far removed from the crowded, cluttered near-future spaces found in Gibson novels like Neuromancer. We are, in many respects, living in the world Gibson envisioned, including the way every innovation gets redirected to new ends, some inventive and some destructive.Īdapted from Gibson's 2014 novel of the same name (the first in a proposed trilogy), The Peripheral expands the notion of what "the street" means. (In the same story, Gibson coins the term "cyberspace.") The line concisely summarizes how technology gets repurposed and used in ways its inventors never intended. Let's just say prayer is communication from our hearts to the great mystery, or Goodness, or Howard to the animating energy of love we are sometimes bold enough to believe in to something unimaginably big, and not us. My friend Robin calls God "the Grandmothers." The Deteriorata, a parody of the Desiderata, counsels us, "Therefore, make peace with your god, / Whatever you conceive him to be- / Hairy thunderer, or cosmic muffin.". The following are excerpts taken from Anne Lamott's Help Thanks Wow. I loved how possessive he was. Surprising from these characters, especially Raine! That's why you gotta be on the lookout for the quiet ones guys/ladies, they might shock you hehe. Not my usual kink I fall in love with, but Becca does an amazing job with it, making me want more from these 2 haha. ![]() OOOOOH and I was super happy and pleasantly surprised with the unexpected kink in this book. I loved this story of young love, heartache, intrigue, and SO MUCH ANGST!! I thought the plot was good, some of it was easy to spot but a couple twists were awesome and made for an exciting addition to this world Becca has beautifully created. So I love everything Becca Steele does and Trick Me Twice was no different! I think it did take me awhile to like the MMC in this one because he was such a jerk from the very beginning hahaha but he finally got the stick out of his butt and made it up to FMC. ![]() |
